What
is broadband?
Broadband
is a faster way of connecting your computer to the Internet – often
around ten times faster than a narrowband connection.
It allows you to view web pages more quickly, download large amounts
of information such as film trailers or services that require streaming
content like Internet radio that would not work as well with a dial-up
connection.
Broadband
is unmetered
Most
broadband services are unmetered, which means you pay a flat fee
each month with no additional charges for the amount of time you
spend online, however
Unmetered
does not necessarily mean unlimited
Many
providers set a limit on the amount of data you can download (eg
1 gigabit per month). What is means is for example if you downloaded
2 complete CD's in one month (680mb 1CD) you would be over your
limit, and would have to pay extra for the addition bandwidth.
Broadband
Speeds
The
standard broadband speed was 512kbs (around 10 times faster than
dial up connection), but some providers are now offering much lower
speeds of 150K or 256Kbs.

Minimum
contract
Many
companies also tie you into 12 month contracts to use their service,
